Heather Wood is a Trustee for Together for Short Lives. Previously, Heather was Chair of ACT (The Association for Children's Palliative Care), before it merged with Children's Hospices UK to form Together for Short Lives in 2011.
Heather retired from her role of Chief Executive of Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity in January 2017. She joined Rainbow Trust as its second employee in 1988 and spent her early years of service working with families, gaining valuable insight and hands on experience of working with terminally ill children. She moved into fundraising in the early 1990s, before her appointment as Chief Executive in 1999.
Heather has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the voluntary sector, in particular within children’s palliative care and the social/political issues surrounding it. During her tenure Rainbow Trust gained considerable respect among the health and social care professions for its expertise in social palliative care. The charity contributed to and featured in the Department of Health’s independent review of palliative care services for children and young people in England in 2007 and sat on influencing groups who were reviewing the Children and Families Bill (Children and Families Act 2014).
Heather was also a Trustee for the overseas children’s charity United Aid for Azerbaijan.
