About the role

Based at our custom-built hospice in Walsall, you’ll join our Family Services Team to provide both pre and post bereavement psychosocial support to families going through the grief and pain of losing a child.

You’ll be an advocate for the children we care for, ensuring high quality, needs-led end-of-life care that’s tailored to them and their families. This ranges from carrying out initial holistic needs assessments and determining a plan of support through a range of face-to-face therapeutic work to co-ordinating additional support for parents, siblings and relatives as they face the grieving process.

The role is as wide reaching as it is rewarding. You’ll liaise extensively with external providers and experts across Acorns, supporting families from diverse cultural and social settings across the region. Many of our families you may get to know over several years, some families could be suddenly admitted for a momentary stay with us. Whatever the circumstance, meeting their needs will be professionally invaluable and personally unforgettable.

What’s required?

This is an ideal move for someone in family-centred social care or nursing in the community. Professionally registered with a degree, you’re keen to build on your experience of working holistically with vulnerable groups.

Alongside experience of managing caseloads in a complex multi-agency environment you’ll bring up-to-date child protection knowledge, good assessment skills and the emotional resilience to support families going through loss and bereavement, although previous experience of psychosocial palliative care is not essential. We’re driven by children’s needs, so you should be happy to travel, be flexible about hours and ready to join an on-call rota.
