We are looking for an inspirational, dynamic and enthusiastic Head of Finance to join us on a 9 Month Fixed Term Contract, to lead our professional & skilled Finance Team and play a vital role in helping to maintain the financial health and sustainability of Helen & Douglas House.

You will ensure accurate, timely and relevant records are maintained in accordance with statutory and charity law and provide robust business partner support for all directorates in furtherance of our organisation’s aims. You will help drive and deliver cross-departmental projects with support from the Finance Team and be part of a Leadership Team working with the Executive Directors to achieve our organisational strategic objectives.

In addition, you will be responsible for developing the Finance team to ensure the maintenance of exemplary financial processing standards, to provide training and mentoring to encourage professional & personal growth and ensuring the Finance Team skills are aligned to the evolving needs of the charity.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:

  • CCAB qualified or qualified by extensive demonstrable experience
  • significant finance experience for a similar-sized organisation including management of the annual budget process, ensuring its continued development, and proven influencing skills with all staff across the charity including Exec and Trustees
  • experience of effectively managing, developing, and motivating individuals and teams, with a commitment to personal professional development of self and others
  • experience of dealing with complex financial problems and financial modelling, and experience of finance systems and management thereof
  • able to bring creativity to the resolution of problems and respond appropriately and positively to new challenges

Helen & Douglas House, based in Oxford, is the world’s first children’s hospice. We care for terminally ill babies, children and young people and their families at our hospice and at home. It is a special place where families can make the most of their time together and create happy memories during their children’s short lives. As a charity, we rely almost entirely on voluntary donations to support our work.
