Do you want to support us by sharing your expertise to help in shaping the future of one of Wales’ leading children’s hospices? Then becoming a Trustee for Tŷ Hafan might be for you.

Since January 1999, Tŷ Hafan has provided free of charge specialist palliative care services to children with life limited conditions, and their families, throughout Wales. Our mission is to offer a high standard of free care to children in Wales who may die in childhood in order to enrich their quality of life and support their families during life, at end of life and through bereavement. We seek to achieve this through delivery of our strategic objectives.

Our hospice and head office are located in Sully in the Vale of Glamorgan, and extend into the community, in the home, in hospital – wherever we are needed to support the 260+ children and families currently in our care.

Funded primarily by the generosity of the people of Wales through charitable donations, fundraising activities and events, a retail store network and a membership lottery, we also receive some support from local health boards to offer a holistic care experience. We also rely heavily on our network of over 600 volunteers, without whom we could not do what we do every day.

Tŷ Hafan has a robust governance structure, reflecting the diversity of the organisation. Currently, eight trustees support us on a non executive basis in discharging the board’s responsibilities and supporting the executive to ensure the effective running of the Charity in the best interests of the beneficiaries. Each trustee plays an engaged role, volunteering his/her time and support freely, contributing the benefit of his/her professional expertise and experience, working together to protect and develop the Charity in a heavily regulated environment.

To complement the skillset of our board, we are inviting expressions of interest from individuals with relevant fundraising, marketing, digital and communications/PR skills. Board level experience and the ability to analyse and interpret high level information are desirable. Joining our trustee board requires a commitment averaging two to three days per month.

Applications, which should include a covering letter and CV, should be emailed to If you would like to discuss the role informally or require further information, please contact Susan Sullivan on 029 2053 2247.
