Volunteers are at the heart of our organisation. Whether working directly with families in the hospice or their homes, helping at events, supporting customers in our shops, or gardening in our beautiful outdoor spaces, volunteers are all integral to the work of Helen & Douglas House.
We are looking for a motivated Volunteer Coordinator who will be responsible for supporting our Income Generation volunteers. This is a big area of growth for us and a great opportunity for someone to shape the way our Income Generation volunteers’ skills are utilised and engaged.
You will primarily provide advice and support to volunteer managers across the organisation, to recruit and retain these vital volunteers, and keep our service running. As well as advising staff, you will also provide direct support and guidance to volunteers, manage volunteer training, development and engagement initiatives, and feed into the strategic development of the volunteering programme.

Essential skills and experience for the role:
- demonstrable experience in a similar role, with responsibility for supporting volunteers and delivering volunteer recruitment and retention plans
- experience of working in a team, and across multiple teams within an organisation
- strong diplomacy, influencing, and negotiating skills
- strong communication and people skills; able to develop effective working relationships across the organisation
- ability to work independently, prioritise, and make decisions
- experience of delivering training to staff or volunteers.
This role is hybrid, with 2 days per week working in the office and the remaining working from home.
