Maria McGill
Trustee

Maria McGill is a Trustee for Together for Short Lives. Maria has 22 years’ experience in specialist palliative care and has been the Chief Executive of Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) since October 2010.

Since taking up this post, Maria has led the organisation in the development of the new Strategic Plan for CHAS, supported the further development of research activities and has led the introduction of new progressive and innovative policies in a range of key areas across the organisation. Conscious of contemporary constraints on funding and of the need for CHAS to collaborate and work closely with other agencies, Maria has established strong relationships with local authorities CoSLA, the Scottish Government and palliative care organisations across the UK.

Between 2001 and 2004, Maria undertook the King’s Fund/Johnson & Johnson Nurse Leadership Programme. This two-year programme provided the opportunity to explore the organisation, delivery, culture and politics of health care leadership in a variety of settings throughout the United Kingdom, Brussels and Singapore.

From 2006 until 2011, Maria was Chairperson of the Council of the Scottish Partnership for Palliative Care. In 2007, Maria chaired the working group that produced the document: Palliative and End of Life Care: The case for a cohesive approach in Scotland.

Prior to working with CHAS, Maria was the Chief Executive in Highland Hospice for six years. Maria is also Trustee for the Scottish Partnership for Palliative Care.
