Seriously ill children's families are struggling

Families caring for a seriously ill child are struggling

With recent cuts to local services, inconsistency in the support available, and rising costs, families caring for their seriously ill child are struggling. They are struggling to pay for their bills, struggling to fill their cupboards with food, and struggling to spend quality time together which is even more important when the time you have together is short.

Children's hospice professionals - stretched

Children's hospice professionals are stretched to find them support

Children’s hospice nurses and family support workers are getting asked more and more by the families they are caring for to help them with their struggles. They are stretched trying to find them help on top of providing palliative care and they often don’t have the tools to provide it.

Our helpline calls - increasing

Our Helpline calls from these professionals are increasing

So the professionals working at children’s hospices turn to us. With a national Helpline run by a team of experts, we can find the support their families need. That may be a grant for a home adaptation, help to cover the costs of a child’s funeral, a trip away to spend time together or a food shop to fill the cupboards.  But these calls are increasing, so we need your help to answer the next Helpline call that comes in.

The helpline has been instrumental in helping me support our families. It’s my “go to” if ever I need support. Families are always so grateful for any support, but we couldn’t always provide it without the ongoing help and advice from the Helpline. They fill an enormous gap for us. They are like an oracle for all families.

The impact Together for Short Lives has on our families is profound. They help alleviate any immediate worries allowing them to focus on their priorities – their children. Knowing the Helpline is there is reassuring for me too. I have reached out numerous times on behalf of families I’m caring for. They provide a much-needed safety blanket.

The financial help and food shops that Together for Short Lives organised was invaluable. Their Helpline adds another dimension to the care I can offer to families at a time when they need it most.

Thank you for your support

As the person who oversees our Helpline here at Together for Short Lives and picks up the phone to those who call us when they are most in need, I wanted to personally thank you for your support. Although it is me and my team who answer the calls, it it you that makes it possible with your kind donations.
