Why donate unclaimed accounts?
Unclaimed client funds can be time-consuming to manage, adding to your administrative workload during account reconciliations and annual reporting. If you’ve made reasonable efforts to locate the rightful owner without success, consider turning these funds into a meaningful contribution by donating them to Together for Short Lives.

Three steps to donate dormant client account funds
1. Notify the SRA
If the individual account balance is over £500, you will need authorisation from the SRA before donating. You can find the Solicitors Regulation Authorities application form and further guidance on the SRA website.
Once you’ve obtained the necessary approval, Together for Short Lives will provide a signed individual indemnity letter for your records, guaranteeing that any reclaimed funds will be refunded if required.
If the individual account balance is under £500 this step isn’t necessary.
2. Inform the account holder
Download our template letter to notify the account holder of your intention to donate the unclaimed funds to Together for Short Lives.
3. Make your donation
To arrange a bank transfer of unclaimed client funds, please email our Business Development Manager, Fran Palliser.
