Children’s Palliative Care Educators Forum

We are delighted to announce the re-launch of the Children’s Palliative Care Educators Forum, hosted by Together for Short Lives.

This forum aims to bring together educators from across hospices, hospitals, and healthcare networks, covering the entire spectrum of paediatric palliative care, including perinatal, neonatal, paediatric, and young people.

The Children’s Palliative Care Educators forum serves as a platform for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and peer support to ensure the best possible care for children and their families.

Meeting schedule and how to register

We will meet every three months virtually, providing flexibility and accessibility for all participants. Additionally, there will be one face-to-face event each year, offering an opportunity for deeper discussions and networking. Please use the form below to register your place.

Why it’s important

Palliative care for children is a specialised and constantly evolving field. By bringing together educators from different settings, we can learn from one another, stay updated on the latest advances in care, and maintain high standards across the sector. Collaboration across organisations is essential for:

  • Standardising Best Practices: Aligning our approaches to palliative care ensures consistency across different services and regions, making certain all children and families receive the highest level of care.
  • Sharing Knowledge: Engaging with expert speakers and discussing advances in the field enables us to effectively implement new insights, tools, and research into our practices.
  • Networking and Problem-Solving: The Forum provides a supportive environment to ask questions, seek guidance from peers, and address common challenges together.
  • Championing Progress: We will highlight success stories and innovative approaches to care, championing the important work being done in palliative care education.
  • Peer Support: Given the emotional and professional challenges of working in paediatric palliative care, this group will offer a space for peer support, helping members feel less isolated and providing encouragement from those who understand the unique pressures of this field.

Objectives

The Forum will meet regularly to:

  • Hear from speakers on current trends, learning opportunities, and advancements in paediatric palliative care.
  • Share best practices and discuss how different organisations are implementing successful approaches to care and education.
  • Network with fellow educators, creating a supportive space for questions, collaboration, and shared learning.
  • Standardise care approaches through collaboration, helping improve quality and consistency across various services.
  • Provide peer support, allowing educators to connect with others facing similar challenges and share experiences to build resilience in this emotionally demanding field.

By working together, the Forum can play a key role in strengthening paediatric palliative care across the sector, ensuring that children and families receive the best care while providing professionals with access to the most up-to-date education, resources, and peer connections. This Forum will empower educators to lead the way in improving standards, innovating care, and fostering a community of support.

Further details, including dates for the first virtual meeting, will be shared soon. We look forward to your participation and to working together to drive progress in this vital field.
