Children’s Palliative Care Practitioner

Keep up to date

As a member, you will receive:

  • Our e-bulletin which highlights the main developments and recent news affecting children’s palliative care.
  • Our bi-monthly Care Exchange email newsletter for front-line care staff – exclusive to members – to hear about upcoming events, job opportunities, new resources and good practice.
  • Synopsis – our twice-yearly compendium of children’s palliative care research abstracts.
  • Together for families – our quarterly newsletter for families featuring up to date information about services, government policy, family stories and the latest news from Together for Short Lives (available both by email, or printed copies for families you work with).
  • You can also subscribe to our monthly Leaders’ Briefings for updates on our campaigns, opportunities to help shape children’s palliative care policy, upcoming events and a round-up of parliamentary business. We will also send you ad hoc briefings and alerts on public affairs and policy issues.

Network and share

We run free masterclasses and webinars for members as well as conferences. These are a great chance to meet up, update each other and share learning.

Our Leaders of Care events bring together senior clinical staff from across the sector to hear about the latest developments and discuss good practice in children’s palliative care.

We also hold regular summits to bring together the chairs of the UK’s children’s palliative care networks.

Publications

We produce a range of publications for professionals, including our Care Pathways for babies, children and young people in transition. These are all available in the professional resources section on our website. It’s also work checking our Member Resource Library where our members can share policies, research and expertise from their own services.

Research

We are often approached by researchers and academics looking for children, young people, families and professionals to take part in research. We are more than happy to share appropriate requests with our stakeholders. If you wish to explore whether we can help you to recruit subjects for your research project, email us to tell us more about your requirements.

Information and support for families

We provide a helpline and email information service for families, a range of publications and a service that provides free advocacy support from a volunteer legal professional for families who have particular issues with care packages or housing for example. Let us know if you would like some posters or flyers with the helpline details.

As someone who works in a fundraising role at one of our member organisations, you will receive:

  • *Our monthly National Fundraising Scheme (NFS) newsletter with all the latest news on our current and prospective corporate partnerships, opportunities for you to get involved, and a spotlight on fundraisers in other organisations.
  • Our e-bulletin which highlights the main developments and recent news affecting children’s palliative care.
  • Ad hoc briefings and alerts on public affairs and policy issues.
  • You can choose to receive our monthly Leaders’ Briefings for updates on our campaigns, opportunities to help shape children’s palliative care policy, upcoming events and a round-up of parliamentary business.

National Fundraising Scheme

Our NFS provides a source of corporate income for both Together for Short Lives and our members who provide children’s hospice services. Get in touch if you have any questions about how the NFS works, and how you can help your organisation benefit from this scheme (subject to eligibility).

Communications or Marketing

As someone who works in a communications or marketing role at one of our member organisations, you will receive:

We run free communications webinars for members on different themes with time for a Q&A and discussion session.. As well as hopefully providing you with some helpful ideas to take away, they’re also a great chance to ask for advice and share learning. Check our events page for details about upcoming events.

Engage

Make sure you follow Together for Short Lives on Twitter and Facebook. When appropriate, We interact with and promote our members’ campaigns through social media. You can also subscribe to our member list on Twitter to see what our other members are tweeting about.

Finance

As someone who works in a finance role at one of our member organisations, you will receive:

We hold regular Finance Directors’ forums for our charity members to share information and best practice on developing issues. Check our events page for details about upcoming forums.

Finance Directors from children’s hospice services are also invited to take part in an annual hospice costs benchmarking exercise. Those involved in the project are invited to discuss the findings in a closed session at the end of each forum meeting.

Resources

Our member resources library contains many useful documents for children’s palliative care sector finance professionals including examples of policies shared by our members and notes and presentations from past Finance Director’s forums.

Human Resources

As someone who works in a human resources role at one of our member organisations, you will receive:

  • Our monthly Leaders’ Briefings with updates on our campaigns, opportunities to help shape children’s palliative care policy, upcoming events and a round-up of parliamentary business.

Network and share

You can also use a simple form in the members’ area to upload details of job vacancies in your organisation. We will then promote these vacancies to professionals throughout the sector via our website and bulletins.

We run an annual survey (February) for all our voluntary sector member organisations looking at the salary uplifts being offered, and we share the results with those who took part. If you would like to know more about this, please email Richard Carling, Director of Finance and Resources at Together for Short Lives.

Resources

You can find plenty of useful resources for HR managers in our member resource library, including examples of policies and HR strategies from our other members on issues including disciplinary/grievance, whistleblowing, social media, absence management and more…

Every year, we hold two free forums for volunteer managers in our member organisations. These are a good opportunity to meet colleagues from the sector and exchange knowledge and best practice around all aspects of volunteer management.

Check our member resources library for useful resources for volunteer managers, including example policies and role descriptions, as well as notes and presentations from past Volunteer Manager forums. You should also find our Developing Volunteer Services hub useful if you are interested in involving volunteers in providing support to children and families.
