TCS London Marathon 2026 – General terms and conditions of participation
Thank you for your interest in joining Team Together for the 2026 TCS London Marathon!
The London Marathon is a much-loved and vital fundraising event for Together for Short Lives, helping us support seriously ill children and the families who care for them. These terms and conditions outline what you can expect from us and what we ask of you in return if you’re offered a charity place.
Registration
- You agree to pay a £100 non-refundable registration fee within 10 days of being offered a place. If the fee isn’t received by day 11, we reserve the right to offer your place to another applicant unless agreed otherwise in writing.
- You understand that your place cannot be transferred to another person or event.
- You understand this registration fee is non-refundable and non-transferable under any circumstances and does not count toward your fundraising target.
- You agree to the terms and conditions set out by TCS London Marathon Events.
- You understand the TCS London Marathon Events have their own terms and conditions that you will need to agree to when registering (if successful in receiving a ballot place or charity place with Together for Short Lives).
- You will also be required to register your details directly with TCS London Marathon Events. Instructions and deadlines will be shared with you by our team. If you miss the deadline, you will not be able to take part in the event.
- You understand that in order to take part in the 2026 TCS London Marathon, you must also register with the London Marathon Events Ltd. Failure to complete the event organisers’ registration by any applicable deadline will mean you are unable to participate in the event.
- You must collect your race pack in person during the official London Marathon collection period. Details will be published by the event organisers.
Fundraising
- You commit to raising a minimum sponsorship of £2,500 (excluding Gift Aid and matched funding) and agree to send all sponsorship money to Together for Short Lives no later than six weeks after the event.
- If you do not meet the £2,500 target within that time, you agree to personally make up the shortfall no later than seven weeks post-event. This is not inclusive of any match funding your organisation may offer.
- You agree to raise at least 50% of the minimum sponsorship (£1,250) by 31 January 2026. Failure to do so may result in your place being withdrawn. Funds raised to that point will be treated as donations unless sponsors contact us for a refund.
- You understand that if you withdraw for any reason from the event (and are not deferring), any monies raised will be non-refundable and will be treated as a donation to TFSL
- By accepting a charity place, you understand that Together for Short Lives has the right (in its absolute discretion) to withdraw your place at any time if it considers that you are not committed to raising the pledged sponsorship or if you fail to comply with agreed obligations.
- If you host any independent fundraising activities (e.g. a bake sale or quiz night), you do so in your own name and at your own risk. Please make it clear that the event is “in aid of Together for Short Lives.” Contact us if you’d like to use our “in aid of” logo.
- All fundraising must be carried out in line with legal guidelines and our fundraising guidance, as found in your Fundraising Pack.
General
- You agree to run in Together for Short Lives branded clothing unless otherwise agreed by our Events team.
- You confirm that you will be at least 18 years old on race day (Sunday, 26 April 2026).
- You accept that you are entering the event at your own risk.
- You confirm that, to the best of your knowledge, you are fit and medically able to take part in the marathon.
- If your circumstances change and you’re unable to take part, please let us know as early as possible so we can potentially reallocate your place.
- Together for Short Lives accepts no liability for any injury, loss or damage sustained during your participation in the event, except for liability that cannot be excluded by law (e.g. death or personal injury caused by our negligence).
Deferrals
We completely understand that things may not always go to plan. If you are unable to take part in the 2026 TCS London Marathon, please contact events@togetherforshortlives.org.uk as soon as possible to discuss deferring.
All deferral requests will need to be discussed and agreed with the Events team at Together for Short Lives, but the following rules apply when deferring:
- If you have raised a minimum of 50% of your fundraising commitment (£1,250) and haven’t deferred on a previous occasion, you will be offered a deferral to the 2027 team.
- If you have not hit a minimum of 50% of your fundraising commitment, but have raised something towards your fundraising target and you have requested your deferral before the London Marathon console closes, we will review your request on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration the amount you’ve raised and the reasons for deferral.
- If you have not raised anything towards your minimum fundraising target and/or asked to defer once the console has closed, we will not be able to offer you a deferral to the 2027 team and will ask you to re-apply.
- If you have deferred on a previous occasion, we cannot offer you a deferral for another year, and you will need to reapply.
- If you are offered a deferral, your registration fee is not refundable, and you will be asked to re-pay your registration fee to secure your place in the 2027 event.
- Any money you have raised can also be rolled over to count towards your fundraising total next time, but the minimum fundraising target may change annually at Together for Short Lives’ discretion.
If you have a ballot place, you will need to contact the TCS London Marathon directly to discuss their deferral process.
