Downton Abbey auction exceeds expectations with proceeds donated to Together for Short Lives

News and comment
Bonhams Downton Abbey auction

Bonhams’ farewell auction of props, costumes, and set pieces from Downton Abbey ended on 16 September, closing at an incredible £1.7 million. We are thrilled that Carnival Films have generously chosen to contribute their proceeds to Together for Short Lives to support seriously ill children and their families.

Although the final figure of the proceeds is still to be confirmed, we know that this significant gift will help us make sure that no one has to face living through their child’s short life – and death – alone.

Nick Carroll, our Chief Executive, said: “We are so grateful to Carnival Films for this incredible gift and we look forward to receiving our share of the funds in the coming months. Seriously ill children and their families deserve the chance to live a full life, supported by care that enables them to thrive. This gift will mean we can support families through difficult times – and ensure seriously ill children and their families can get the care they need, when and where they need it.”

As the new release of Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale is currently number one in the UK and Ireland box office, it is thrilling that the concurrent Bonhams auction has so exceeded expectations. I am delighted that not only will the props and costumes from the series be preserved - and hopefully cherished - by their new owners, but also that they have raised so much money for our chosen good cause Together for Short Lives.

Gareth Neame, Executive Producer and CEO of Carnival Films
