Dr Lynda Brook
Dr Lynda Brook has been passionate about paediatrics and palliative care since medical school, having trained in paediatric oncology, paediatric neurology and palliative care before being appointed as a paediatric palliative care consultant at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool in 2003: the fourth paediatric palliative care consultant post in the UK.
Lynda has worked at Alder Hey since 2003 and brings extensive experience in senior clinical practice, service development and leadership in children’s palliative care. Her professional interests include advance care planning, ethical decision‑making, hearing the voice of the child, and improving transition to adult services, with a strong emphasis on practical, compassionate care for children and families.
Lynda has played a significant role in developing paediatric palliative care at regional and national level. She established the Merseyside and Cheshire Children’s Palliative Care Network and the North West Children’s Palliative Care Network, and was the founding Chair of the Association for Paediatric Palliative Medicine (APPM), following the merger of the Children’s Hospice Doctors Association and the Society for Paediatric Palliative Medicine.
Alongside her clinical work, Lynda’s focus in recent years has increasingly shifted towards her role as Editor of the Association for Paediatric Palliative Medicine (APPM) Formulary, leading work to expand its scope, strengthen the evidence base and develop new national and regional collaborations. She is also supporting the development of paediatric palliative care research across Alder Hey and the Northwest.
Lynda brings significant governance and voluntary sector experience as children’s hospice trustee. She joined the Together for Short Lives Board of Trustees in 2026 and is committed to supporting the charity’s strategic work to improve equity, quality and outcomes for children with life‑limiting conditions and their families across the UK.
