Award in honour of Dame Elizabeth Fradd to be presented at Together for Short Lives’ 2025 Conference

News and comment

Together for Short Lives are thrilled to announce that in recognition of Dame Liz Fradd’s contribution to the children’s palliative care sector, we will be launching a professional award in her name at our UK Conference in May 2025.

The Dame Elizabeth Fradd Award will be given for the Best Conference Abstract as judged by a panel of independent experts, one which demonstrates excellence in the field of children’s palliative care.

Our conference, held every two years, brings together the leading practitioners and researchers in the sector and is focused on improving the availability, quality and sustainability of support for children and families. Our 2025 Conference in Manchester (7-8 May) will have children and families at its heart, challenging delegates to be bold and innovative, in our ambition to build a resilient and connected sector.

Dame Liz dedicated her professional life to the continuous improvement of healthcare. She had been Vice President of Together for Short Lives since its formation in 2011 and was a founding member of our Advisory Council.

She made an outstanding contribution to the children’s palliative care sector and was always a source of great wisdom and insight, happy to support and challenge to do everything possible to improve the access to and quality of palliative care for children and young people.

She was passionate about how we spread the very best practice in children’s palliative care as she was with so many areas of nursing and healthcare.

Liz was a regular contributor to our conference over the years and had agreed to join us as a speaker next May, shortly before her death.

We hope that an award in her name that recognises innovative, evidence-based excellence in practice will be a fitting recognition of all that she meant to us and ensures her influence lives on in future generations of children’s palliative care professionals.

A cornerstone of our conference is the opportunity for professionals to share and learn from each other. We warmly invite professionals to submit abstracts, whether presenting fresh ideas, showcasing innovative approaches in care, evaluating service developments, or sharing the outcomes of pilot studies or ongoing research projects. We welcome contributions from all disciplines and sectors.

Those wishing to submit an abstract, and therefore be in with the chance of winning The Dame Elizabeth Fradd Award, can do so by visiting here.
