Bayer has handed over a cheque for £25,952 to Together for Short Lives.
The cash was raised after 226 people from Bayer’s General Medicine division took part in a swim-cycle-run ‘Try-Athlon’ in July – followed by a big day of fundraising activities, all organised by the participants, to help generate as much cash as possible.
Head of General Medicine, Dan Coombes, supported by a selection of the people who took part on the day, was thrilled to present the cheque to the charity’s head of corporate partnerships, Nick Appleby, at Bayer’s offices in Green Park.
Nick Appleby presented a certificate of achievement and took the opportunity to talk to the team about the latest work the charity is doing, spelling out why donations such as this are so appreciated.
“By supporting Together for Short Lives you are making a difference to families across the UK supported by their local children’s hospice,” he told the group. “Raising £26,000 through this event is a fantastic achievement and means you have raised nearly £60,000 in the last two years. This equates to nearly 2,500 hours of direct care in children’s hospices. It makes a huge difference to a great number of children and families. The impact is massive so thank you!”
Dan Coombes said: “We are very proud to support this charity. As a healthcare organisation we support a lot of therapy areas, and it’s fantastic to be able to help a charity which specifically supports children and their families. It’s something that really motivates our team, especially those who were attempting a triathlon for the first time!”
