It’s a deal: GFI charity day supports Together for Short Lives

News and comment
Holly Willoughby and Richard Jones

On Wednesday we were delighted to take part in the 4th annual GFI Charity Day, hosted to commemorate the 9/11 attacks. The day sees leading brokerage company GFI, part of the BGC group, welcome charities and their ambassadors onto our trading floors in London and around the world, to raise money for many good causes. On the day 100% of global revenues raised by GFI are donated to the participating charities – including this year Together for Short Lives.

Representing Together for Short Lives this year were our Patron Holly Willoughby, our ambassador Richard Jones, and three families of children with life-limiting conditions: John Roden and his grand-daughter, Aga and Lucas Brokowska and their boys Wiktor and Borys, and Alberta and Ange Ossoulo, and their children Joshua and Jonathan. Holly and Richard made time to meet each family, and also spent time on the trading floor, closing deals worth £millions while chatting to brokers, and in Richard’s case performing close-up magic.

Though it is the first time that GFI has welcomed us to its charity day, we were grateful to be invited to its sister company BGC’s charity days in 2018 and 2017, and we appreciate the ongoing support the group has given us.

It was a brilliant day, and we’re hoping that GFI raised lots of money for good causes. Any funds donated to Together for Short Lives will be put into a new Butterfly fund, which we’re currently developing and hoping to launch next year, to help give more support to bereaved families when a child dies of a life-limiting or life-threatening health condition. If you want to support the development of the fund, and all our work supporting seriously-ill children, then please make a donation today.
