Together for Short Lives is a leading UK charity for children with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions. Our strategy focuses on achieving positive change for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, their families, and those that support and care for them. We want to ensure that every seriously ill child and their family gets high quality children’s palliative and end of life care, when and where they need it.
Our current Chief Executive leaves after a successful six year tenure, during which time he led significant growth in the charity’s impact and income, extending support for families and professionals, supporting quality improvement in palliative care and successfully advocating for better funding.
The new CEO will be responsible for the delivery of a sustainable and high quality organisation that provides outstanding support to families and seriously ill children, and provide leadership to the organisation and its staff.
We are seeking an empathetic, inspiring and commercially astute CEO with experience of leading through change and growth to help us achieve our mission to help more children across the UK. The new CEO will navigate the changing environment and lead the organisation through further strategic change and development whilst maintaining financial stability and a strong reputation.
The Candidate
- A strategic thinker, capable of collaborating with the Board to define a clear organisational vision and effectively communicate it both internally and externally.
- A well-developed understanding of organisational governance, ensuring effective financial planning, tight controls and risk management.
- High financial acumen to grow income and identify areas for efficiency, while inspiring, motivating and managing staff and volunteers to ensure co-ordinated activities across the organisation.
- An empathetic listener, with high levels of emotional intelligence and the ability to engage and influence a diverse group of stakeholders.
- An engaging and inspirational spokesperson for the charity and the sector as a whole.
- Demonstrate resilience in problem solving, and a coaching/mentoring style at all levels, while maintaining clarity, openness and determination to achieve agreed objectives.
