Sheffield Children’s Hospital, in partnership with the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw ICB, is pleased to announce two new Consultant posts in Paediatric Palliative Care. These roles form part of a wider regional development strategy, including a third post linked to general paediatrics, to provide a total of 20 PAs of additional consultant time to enhance paediatric palliative care services across South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire.

These new consultant positions will be hosted by Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, delivering specialist and holistic palliative care to children and young people (up to age 19). The posts aim to support and strengthen palliative care provision both within the hospital and in the wider community.

About You: We are looking for compassionate and experienced clinicians with a background in Paediatric Palliative Medicine. You will be GMC-registered with a licence to practise. A commitment to collaboration, education, and regional service development is essential, as is the ability to travel across the region.

Main duties of the job
You will report to the Associate Medical Director, and your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide clinical leadership in developing a regional tier of specialist paediatric palliative care
  • Deliver high-quality care to children and families at home, in hospital, and in respite facilities such as Ryegate House
  • Collaborate with district hospital teams, the ICB, and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice
  • Support local paediatric clinicians to deliver palliative care, closer to home.
  • Work with haematology and oncology teams to support symptom management and holistic care
  • Support end-of-life care planning, including facilitating preferred place of death
