An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team of Advanced Clinical Practitioners at Derian House Children’s Hospice. The post will also involve the provision of in-reach support to children’s services at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust with the development of specialist children’s palliative and end of life care services for Lancashire and South Cumbria. Working alongside our existing team the successful candidate will undertake a 2 year MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice at UCLAN commencing in September 2021

Derian House Children’s Hospice is proud to have been providing high quality care to children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions for the last 25 years.
The Derian care team provides symptom management, palliative and end-of-life care, as well as short break respite care to children, young people and their families across Lancashire, South Cumbria and Greater Manchester. Supported by our dedicated community team, family support team, neonatal services and young people’s services we are able to provide a wide range of support and care in a variety of settings.

The successful candidate must be familiar with the requirements of the role of an Advanced Clinical Practitioner and be able to meet the requirements for entry onto a Masters level programme of education. The course and trainee post will be for 2 years during which time the post holder will be expected to successfully complete the academic requirements of the course and at the same time be involved with the ongoing development of the role and palliative care services within the Hospice and hospital.

The role will require autonomous working at a high level, critical reasoning and decision-making leading on the delivery of palliative and end of life care both in the Hospice, Community and in the Hospital. The successful candidate will be required to work flexibly to meet the requirements of the academic programme and the needs of the organisation including participation in the provision of on-call.

Criteria for application:

  • Current registration with the NMC
  • A first degree or evidence of recent study at degree or masters level
  • A minimum of 5 years’ post-registration experience of which 3 years should have involvement with the palliative care speciality.

On completion of the training Derian House will fund a salary uplift following an external evaluation review. Successful candidates will be expected to sign an agreement to continue with their employment as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner for a minimum period of 3 years post qualifying.
