Together for Short Lives welcomes a new report “Palliative and End of Life Care for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Groups in the UK”, commissioned jointly by Public Health England and Marie Curie Cancer Care from the Cicely Saunders Institute at Kings College London.
This very timely report chimes with the body of work we have been undertaking within our own Diversity Group which has been working to develop good practice tools for use across the children’s hospice and palliative care sector. Although the report is focussed on the demographic profile and the current state of palliative and end of life care provision for an ageing population, there is valuable evidence for all ages about the need to make end of life care more accessible and appropriate to BAME communities. The report provides examples of good practice in relation to improving communication with patients and their families and developing culturally sensitive services.
