About the role

Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service is looking for an experienced and compassionate Team Leader (Care) to join our dedicated clinical team.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced children’s nurse with a passion for palliative and complex care to provide clinical leadership while remaining hands-on in practice. Working closely with the Senior Care Team, you will help lead the delivery of exceptional care for children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families.

As Team Leader, you will act as an expert practitioner and role model, supporting the team to deliver high-quality, safe and compassionate care across both in-house hospice services and community support. You will work collaboratively with a second Team Leader who focuses on the managerial aspects of the service, ensuring a strong and sustainable model of care.

This role forms part of the 24/7 care rota and will involve supporting emergency and end-of-life care where needed.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership and expert practice in children’s palliative care.
• Deliver and oversee holistic assessment, care planning and evaluation for children and young people.
• Act as a key point of support for families, communicating complex and sensitive information with empathy and professionalism.
• Support the clinical development of the care team, including mentoring, supervision and education.
• Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, audit and risk management.
• Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.
• Support service development and innovation to continually improve the care we provide.

About you

We are looking for someone who is both clinically experienced and passionate about leadership.

You will have:

• RSCN or RN (Child) qualification (degree or diploma level)
• Significant experience working with children with complex or palliative care needs
• Experience of clinical leadership, mentorship and team support
• Strong communication and organisational skills
• A commitment to family-centred care and the values of hospice care
• Ability to work flexibly as part of a 24/7 rota
• A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle

Experience in community care, end-of-life care, or teaching and assessing would be advantageous.
