Are you interested in utilising your leadership experience to provide specialist palliative nursing care to babies, children and young people in Scotland’s national children’s hospice service?

We have a fantastic opportunity for a senior staff nurse to join our existing CHAS at Home team .The team are based in Robin House but work in the families homes providing the highest level of family centered care to support the needs of babies, children and young people with life shortening conditions and their families.

As a registered nurse with experience in paediatrics this is a great time to join our homecare team, not only because the Care Inspectorate reviewed us as an ‘Excellent’ service, but because we are currently expanding our CHAS at Home work to meet an increased need for families with a child who has a life shortening condition. We are looking for a nurse who is motivated, forward thinking and likes to have fun.

Would you like to use your nursing and leadership skills to make a real difference?
With experience of working and caring for babies, children and young people with a life shortening condition and complex needs, you will be able to adapt the care you give to meet their needs, and those of their family.

You will provide leadership support and specialist clinical expertise to the multi-disciplinary team, and will undertake a number of line management responsibilities. Providing a high standard of palliative nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care, you will support families in making the most of the short time they have together. As well as managing a wide range of complex conditions, you’ll help create precious memories through play, arts and crafts, outdoor activities and new experiences; creating an environment where children are truly able to live life to the full. You will enjoy working as part of a close-knit team and have a positive, resilient attitude.

Are you interested in developing your career further?
Our focus on developing a talented nursing team underpins everything we do for the care of families. We care about our staff so they can care for the families. You will have a number of opportunities for professional development including regular clinical supervision and reflective practice which will support your revalidation requirements. There will also be many opportunities to share your knowledge and experience with the Nursing Team, including Students and Nursing Support Volunteers. It would be beneficial if you are a nurse mentor or prepared to work towards this.

Qualifications and Experience
A registered children’s nurse qualification is desirable and it is essential that you have a minimum of four years’ relevant post-registration experience of working with children with complex nursing and palliative care needs as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Line management /supervisory experience is also highly desirable.

You will be based in Balloch but this post will require extensive travel across the West of Scotland and occasional travel to other CHAS at Home sites (Rachel House in Kinross, Aberdeen and Inverness) and so you should have access to a car and a full driving licence.

Be part of our ambition
At CHAS, our ambition is to reach every family in Scotland who is living with the heartbreaking prognosis that their child is dying, and offer them our care and support to empower them to make the most of the short time they have together. As a Senior Staff Nurse, you will be instrumental in achieving this vision and shaping our future.
