Together for Short Lives’ Ambassador Lance Corporal Richard Jones has been sprinkling magic and entertaining young adults and their families at a community group called Inspire! run by The J’s Hospice, part of Havens Hospices. Richard’s visit to the J’s Hospice helped to celebrate the remarkable work of children’s and young people’s hospices services for Children’s Hospice Week (17-23 June). Children’s Hospice Week raises awareness of these lifeline hospices, shining a light on services that help families create special memories and important moments in their lives together.
Richard – who is a ‘Member of the Inner Magic Circle’ – treated young people to some close-up magic and chatted with them and their families about how The J’s Hospice supports them.
It’s been great to see what type of care The J’s Hospice offers and how it differs from other hospices that I’ve visited. I’ve been speaking with the families and young adults, and it’s clear to see how much this hospice service means to them, helping them to create happy memories. I love performing, but it is special when I see a spark of magic in people’s eyes like I have done here.

Katherine Barret, the Wellbeing Event Coordinator at The J’s added:
“It was such a treat for our patients to witness Richard’s magic. It truly is mind-blowing! He took the time to talk with the patients and showed a keen interest in how our hospice care is supporting them. We want to thank Richard and Together for Short Lives for choosing The J’s for this visit. They have truly helped in ‘Making every day count’ for our patients and families by creating a wonderful experience for them to remember.”
