Let's talk about sex

Sex is often regarded as a taboo subject, and parents sometimes find it difficult talking to their children about relationships and sexuality; particularly when a child has a physical disability or needs constant care.

This guidance has been written to help parents, children’s palliative care professionals and young people themselves feel informed and more able to talk openly about their sexuality. The resource aims to:

  • Provide the family and carers of young people with life-limiting or life threatening conditions, and organisations involved in their care, with useful information and other resources about relationships, sexual health and sexuality.
  • Help parents and those working with young people to be able to support them as they develop relationships and their own sexual identity.
  • Act as a signpost to useful resources for young people.
