Salladay answers a problem about honoring children’s rights to refuse a treatment on cerebral palsy. She says that part of honoring patients’ rights includes seeking information about their opinions and values. In cases of terminal illness, most pediatric hospitals will honor a child’s refusal of further treatment but one can support a child who refuses treatment by talking with him and trying to understand the child’s thinking.
