Kapow! to raise money for Together for Short Lives

Kapow! is taking place at Business Design Centre, London on 19 and 20 May 2012, and this year the event will be raising money for Together for Short Lives.

Visitors to Kapow! will be amongst the first in the world to get an exclusive sneak peek at upcoming comics, movie blockbusters and hit TV shows from the biggest publishers and studios in the world.

This year our comic-book guests, which include Joe Quesada, Scott Snyder, Mark Millar, Keiron Gillen, Dave Gibbons, Frank Quitely, Bryan Hitch, Olivier Coipel, Sara Pichelli, Terry Dodson and Jock, will sketch a character and sign an oversized sheet of paper, which will subsequently be framed and auctioned for charity, with all proceeds being donated to Together for Short Lives. So come along and see some of the biggest artists in the world at work!

Together for Short Lives is the only UK charity working to help ensure that every child and young person unlikely to reach adulthood, and their family, has the best possible care and support whenever and wherever they need it.

Barbara Gelb, Chief Executive of Together for Short Lives comments, "We are delighted to be the chosen charity for the Kapow auction. Kapow takes place during Children's Hospice Week, our annual fundraising and awareness week which culminates in a superhero Friday when we are asking that people dress up as their favourite superhero. Given that some of the world's best known comic illustrators will be drawing hero characters for the auction, the timing of this partnership couldn't be better."

She continues, "The money raised at the auction will go towards helping ensure that families make the most of the precious time they have together."

Last year Kapow! raised £3,643.12 for Yorkhill Children's Foundation through the Guinness World Record Superior comic, in addition to £800 for Glasgow University's Beatson Appeal and £400 for Comic Book Alliance through the sale of Charity Lunch tickets.

Other events taking place include two of Britain's biggest comedians, as Jimmy Carr interviews Frankie Boyle live about his love of geek culture, Lucha Britannia wrestling, the chance to win a day editing 2000AD, and the highly anticipated Desert Island Comics brought to you by Comic Book Alliance, as well as portfolio reviews with Marvel, DC, 2000AD and Clint in this action packed weekend!

Live interviews with huge film, TV and comic stars will be taking place all weekend at the Total Film, SFX and Comic Heroes stage plus a massive cosplay competition with an exclusive must-have prize.

Tickets for Kapow! are only available in advance and through the website www.kapowcomicconvention.com. Tickets for Kapow! 2011 sold out ahead of the event, so get your tickets now.
